10/06/05 Meeting Minutes

Present were Brian, Andrew, Andrea, Matt, and Desirina.

Elections were held and the following officers were selected:
President- Brian Pitts
Treasurer- Andrew Swerlick
National liason- Matthew Michelson

Brian will contact Michael Elliot and ask if he is still willing to be our faculty advisor. If he agrees, we will submit our temporary charter application after fall break.

The upcoming symposium was discussed. Desirina reported that we need to find housing for visiting members of other FC chapters. Matt will look into this and report back. We discussed our continuing efforts to gain entry to the symposium. Those of us who can will continue pursuing funding through our academic departments. We will also draft a letter to Lessig on this conference requesting that he ask the symposium organizers to waive our fee.

Brian reported on the revival of the broadcast flag in Congress and Public Knowledge’s page for faxing opposition.

We discussed ideas for future activities. Matt suggested getting local bands to release music under a creative commons license. Andrew suggested distributing a cd of cc licensed music such as the wired cd and encouraging imoviefest to use cc licensed material. Brian suggested campaigning for ITD to relax their restrictions on bittorrent; Desirina pointed out the potential negative reaction to this. It was decided to continue discussing future activities on the conference.

We agreed to hold future meetings biweekly on Tuesdays at 8PM.
